Philly's Tourism Office Takes on Chicago

VisitPhilly.com battles the Windy City with this awesomely clever ad

The Stanley Cup Final doesn’t start until Saturday night but Thursday the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. took a swing on behalf of the Flyers.

VisitPhilly.com took their “With Love, Philadelphia XOXO” campaign viral by pushing out an online ad to Facebook and Uwishunu that takes a simple swipe at the Windy City’s Blackhawks.

The ad reads:

Dear Chicago, what do you have in common with New Jersey, Boston and Montreal?
Hint: You’re about to find out.
With love, Philadelphia XOXO

The ad, sponsored by the City of Brotherly Love’s major tourism office, references the Flyers' series wins over the Devils, Bruins and Canadiens and basically places Lord Stanley's Cup into the Flyers' hands possibly prematurely.

“We LOVE the Flyers and we can’t help but give Chicago a little good-natured ribbing,” said GPTMC’s Caroline Bean.

This is of course in no way mean-spirited like the Boston's moustache ads that had many in Philly -- including NBC Philadelphia’s Vai Sikahema -- up in arms.

GPTMC was talking to the Chicago Tourism folks, according to Bean. So don’t be surprised to see a response soon from the folks in the Windy City.

But Chicago possibly had their response come out a day earlier. The GPTMC ad came a day after Chicago blog "Cityscapes" took a swing at Philly’s architecture, according to CrossingBroad.com.

For good measure the folks at GPTMC will be printing up 750 posters and 400 T-shirts before Game 3 Wednesday in Philly.

We will give this one to Philly. Now how about the Cup?
