Flyers Trade Richards, Carter

Mike Richards is a King and Jeff Carter is a Blue Jacket.

The Flyers have announced that they have traded captain Mike Richards and star forward Jeff Carter, according to NBC Philadelphia's John Clark.

Clark reports that Richards was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

The team captain had nine years left on his contract when he was traded on Thursday.

The Richards trade is so surprising that it is one of the top trending items on Twitter right now.

Carter, who still had 11 years left on his contract, is headed to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was traded for forward Jakub Voracek and a first and third-round 2011 draft pick.

Richards and Carter, both 26, first skated with the Fly Guys in 2005 and have been integral members of the team since.

The Flyers have also acquired goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. We're hearing that he and the team have agreed to a nine-year, $51 million deal.
