Flyers Take Another Affiliate Under Their Wing

Philadelphia hockey just got more to work with down on the farm.

The Philadelphia Flyers agreed Monday on a contract with the Quad City Mallards of the International Hockey League that made the Mallards the latest Flyers minor league affiliate for the 2009-10 season, Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren said.

With the new agreement, the Flyers can send players back and forth between the two organizations whenever they want throughout the 09-10 season.

“The Flyers are pleased to add Quad City as one of our affiliates,” Holmgren said. “The Mallards have a great tradition of success in their market on and off the ice, and we look forward to a great working relationship.”

The agreement makes the Mallards the Flyers’ third minor league affiliate -- joining the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL and the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.

No idea where the Quad Cities are? The Mallards are based in Moline, Ill.
