Flyers Cough Up Winter Classic in OT

The Flyers lost a 1-0 lead late in the third period and they wound up losing the Winter Classic in overtime as the Bruins won 2-1 Friday.

The third-annual installment of the NHL’s Bridgestone Winter Classic took hockey outdoors at Boston’s Fenway Park and it lived up to the "Classic" name thanks to an amazing Bruins comeback.

The Fly Guys struck first in the second when Danny Syvret blasted his first NHL goal past Boston net minder Tim Thomas at 4:42.

The Fly Guys clung to that 1-0 lead for most of the final period until former-Flyer Mark Recchi was able to finally put one past goalie Michael Leighton with a little more than two minutes left.

Recchi's goal ended Leighton's shutout streak of more than 150 minutes.

Marco Strum’s 14th goal of the season gave the B’s the win in OT.

Teammates poured off the bench and gold-and-black clad Bruins fans roared with excitement. The Flyers waited patiently on the ice to shake hands with the team that had just captured the game in the waning moments.
