Flyers Recall Leighton to Backup Bob, Boosh

Last year’s playoff hero could be this year’s playoff wild card

Maybe the spiraling Fly Guys have an ace up their sleeves for the NHL playoffs.

The Flyers have recalled goalie Michael Leighton from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

Leighton was called up after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old gives the Flyers three goalies and don’t expect him to be the No. 1. He'll backup Sergei Bobrovsky and Brian Boucher.

"Our playoff starters are set," coach Peter Laviolette told the Courier-Post. "In Game 1 Bob's going to start and Boosh will back up. They've been great all year. They've been terrific."

Leighton was 14-12-1 with a 2.22 GAA and a .926 save percentage in 30 games for the Phantoms this season. In just one game for the Flyers this season, Leighton is 1-0-0 with a 4.00 GAA and a .889 save percentage.

He went 8-3 in the playoffs last year with three shutouts, posting a 2.46 GAA and .916 save percentage.
