Flyers Downed 4-1, Face Must-Win Friday

Flyers outshot the Bruins 35-20 but could only muster one goal.

The Flyers struck first but had no answers for the Bruins offense the rest of the game. Philadelphia scored just 2:32 into the first period when Arron Asham put the goal past Boston goalie Tuukka Rask on a feed from Claude Giroux.

The Boston win gives them a commanding 3-0 series lead going into Friday’s game in Philadelphia.

The Flyers could not muster any more offense after their first goal even though they outshot the Bruins 35-20. Rask was magnificent in goal, stopping 34 of 35 shots.

The Flyers lead did not last long in the first period as the Bruins scored 1:39 later when Blake Wheeler deflected the puck past Brian Boucher. The tie was broken just 1:34 later when Miroslav Satan put a backhand shot by Boucher to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

The scoring was plentiful in the first six minutes of the game but quickly tampered off. The next goal was the dagger for the Orange and Black as former Flyer Mark Recchi scored 2:30 into the third period on a power play goal after Asham was called for tripping.

The Flyers had their chances in the third period to get back in the game but could not cash in on two power play chances.

Patrice Bergeron added an empty-net goal with 1:52 remaining in the game to ice it for the Bruins.

The Flyers now face a must-win situation Friday night as the puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Wachovia Center.
