Carter, Gagne Won't Fly for Some Time

Flyers forwards on crutches not skates

The soaring Flyers took a big hit Tuesday night while beating the Devils -- the Fly Guys lost two of their top scorers.

The Fly Guys will be without Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne as they try to clinch Thursday. The forwards both left the Flyers’ 4-1 victory after hurting their feet.

"Both suffered injuries to their right foot in Tuesday night’s game," general manger Paul Holmgren said Wednesday morning. "Neither will be available to play Thursday."

But as the day went on the news became worse as Holmgren revealed that both players would go under the knife Friday to repair the foot fractures.

Gagne should be out about three weeks, the GM said. But, Carter could be out up to six weeks, reported Philly.com Sports

Having two of your main scorers on crutches instead of skates doesn't bode well for Philly in Game 5 or beyond (if they manage to take one more from New Jersey).

Both guys were apparently hurt while deflecting shots, according to the Flyers.

Gagne has a broken toe and Carter needs a plate inserted in his right metatarsal, said CSNPhilly’s Tim Panaccio.

Carter had already missed eight games late in the season with a left foot injury.

The absence of the forwards should be felt. Carter and Gagne combined for two goals and three assists so far in the postseason.

Ville Leino will likely take one of the injured forwards’ spots. The team will likely need to make a call up to fill out the other line.
