Flyers Bring on Krajicek

Philly's got a new defenseman

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Sunday that they have signed free agent Lukas Krajicek, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.

The 26-year-old 6-foot-3, 205-pound defenseman had one assist and 21 penalty minutes in 23 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, as well as recording six assists and eight penalty minutes in 15 games with the Norfolk Admirals, Tampa Bay’s American Hockey League affiliate.

β€œThe Flyers called me and offered me a contract and obviously I jumped on it right away,” said Krajicek. β€œIt is a great place and obviously I want to play in the NHL. I'm just happy to be here."

"Lukas will bring experience and depth to our lineup,” said Holmgren.

In the 2008-09 season, Krajicek posted 19 points (2G,17A) and 48 penalty minutes in 71 games with the Lightning. He's been in the National Hockey League for parts of seven season, with the Florida Panthers (2001-02 and 2003-04 to 2005-06), Vancouver Canucks (2006-07 to 2007-08) and Lightning (2008-09 to 2009-10). During that time, he's compiled 70 points and 231 penalty minutes in 301 games, according to the Flyers.

Krajicek also posted two assists and 12 penalty minutes in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

A native of Prostejov, Czech Republic, Krajicek was originally selected by Florida in the first round (24th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
