Eichfeld's Olympic Run Comes to an End

The 22-year-old was unable to move on to the semi-finals in the Men’s Canoe Single Heats.

Harrisburg-born slalom canoer Casey Eichfeld’s Olympic run came to an end on Sunday. The 22-year-old was unable to move on to the semi-finals in the Men’s Canoe Single Heats.

Eichfeld, who currently lives in Drums, Pa., finished 10th in the first run with a time of 97.04 and 12th in the second run with a time of 102.02. His overall rank was 14, two spots out of the final qualifying spot which belonged to Australia’s Maley Kynan. Michal Martikan of Slovakia rebounded from a 16th place finish in the first run with a first place finish in the 2nd run, earning the number one overall rank.

Eichfeld began competing internationally for the junior national team at just 14-years-old. He was eliminated in the qualifying round during the C-2 slalom competition in the 2008 Olympics. This year he was the only United States participant in the Men’s Canoe Single competition.
