Birds Lay an Egg In Big D

Cowboys shutout Eagles 24-0

With an NFC East title and a first-round bye on the line the Eagles laid an egg Sunday against the Cowboys.

The offense puttered, the defense showed holes and the effort was lackluster as Dallas clobbered Philly 24-0.

The key for the Big D beat down was a stout Cowboys defense. They shutout an Eagles offense that was firing on all cylinders (averaging 31.2 points) during their six-game win streak entering Sunday

The Cowboys put up nearly 475 yards of total offense compared to just about 225 yards of total offense for the Birds.

Donovan McNabb was off target often and rushed as well. D-Mac scuffled along to pass for only 223 yards on 20-for-36 passing and he lost a fumble. No. 5 was also sacked four times.

After the game D-Mac called the whole experience, "humbling." Fans certainly had some less kind words for Sunday's performance.

But, it wasn’t all McNabb’s fault -- Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, Leonard Weaver and Jason Avant all dropped passes. And, top target DeSean Jackson was a virtual non-factor catching three balls for 47 yards.

The really only impressive performances for the Birds came from Celek (seven catches for 96 yards) and the punter Sav Rocca who averaged 42 yards on seven punts including a 61-yard bomb.

You know it was bad if we had to mention the punter in the recap.

Tony Romo, unlike McNabb, was sharp. The Dallas QB finished the game with 311 yards, two scores and an interception on 24-for-34 passing.

The Eagles also lost the battle on the ground. Dallas' deadly duo of Marion Barber and Felix Jones each gained 91 yards. The Birds entire rushing attack only managed to scamper for 37 yards on just 10 rushing attempts.

Both team finished the season at 11-5 but Dallas beat Eagles twice giving the Boys the NFC East crown and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

The Birds finish as a Wild Card and will return to Dallas next week.

Head Coach Andy Reid summed up what the Birds need to do before next week.

"We're going to go back to the drawing board and make sure that we get ourselves ready for this next game," Reid said.
