Phillies Bring Back Dobbs, Gload

The Phillies bolstered their bench Friday when they recalled veterans Greg Dobbs and Ross Gload.

Dobbs, 32, was brought back from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in what will likely not be the last September call up since roster are now expanded from 25 to 40 players. He has shifted between the majors and minors this season as he has disappointed on both levels.

Gload, 34, comes back from the disabled list. He was shutdown last month with a right groin strain that he suffered back on Aug. 11.

The first baseman/outfielder is batting .279 with six homers and 21 RBI in 111 at bats this season.

Dobbs and Gload weren’t the first veterans called up this month. The September call-ups began with catcher Paul Hoover being called up on Wednesday.

With a double header looming on Monday expect more minor leaguers to be getting the call to the big leagues. They will especially need a pitcher to face the Marlins on Monday -- IronPigs Ty Taubenheim, Andrew Carpenter or Nate Robertson could possible get the nod.
