Chan Ho Trades Up Again

Former Phillie inks one-year deal with the Yankees

For the second consecutive season, Chan Ho Park has signed with the defending World Series Champions.

The former Dodgers-turned-Phillies reliever has reportedly agreed to a one-year $1.2 million deal with the New York Yankees, with incentives that could reach up to $300,000, according to The Daily News.

The Yanks were attracted to Park because of his recent success as a reliever. Yankees GM Brian Cashman called Park "very attractive, especially what he does out of the bullpen."

But, with the Phillies bullpen currently under construction and reliever questions unanswered, an already shallow pool of possible relief pitchers just became a little shallower.

The Phightins have turned to recently acquired vets Jose Contreras and Danys Baez to fill the hole left by Park out in Ashburn Ally.

Park, who went 2-2 and posted a 2.52 ERA while striking out 9.4 batters per nine innings in 50 innings as a reliever last season, was actually guaranteed less money by the Yankees than Contreras was given by the Phightins.

The South Korean native had considered signing with the Chicago Cubs to become a starter but opted against it. Can't blame him considering how fly balls become homers in the Friendly Confines.

"I have chosen the Yankees, a prestigious team that can advance to the World Series again,” Park told the Korean Yonhap News Agency.

The Bronx Bombers will be Park's fifth team in 16 major-league seasons.
