109,901 Reasons That Penn State's No. 2

Penn State finishes 2nd -- in stadium capacity

Sorry Nittany Lions you’re no longer tops in college football.

Penn State’s Beaver Stadium is no longer the largest football stadium in the country, according to the AP.

The University of Michigan made a lot of changes to the Big House, erecting luxury boxes and club seats in towering structures that loom along both sidelines as part of a $226 million renovation.

It also increased the seating capacity to 109,901 for this season -- up more than 2,000 -- to reclaim the distinction away from Happy Valley of having the largest football stadium in the country.

Some could have argued that Michigan was already ahead of PSU’s 107,282 game-day capacity but this expansion put them up for sure.

And the battle for bigger and bigger Big 10 football stadiums (Ohio State's Ohio Stadium seats 102,329) could be far from over.

“We're already looking at future expansion,” Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said Wednesday after the media and public got a chance to tour the new-look stadium.
