3 Former Phils Make HOF Ballot

Three former Phillies are among the 23 players up for the Baseball Hall of Fame -- unfortunately none seem destined for Cooperstown at this time or anytime unless they buy a ticket.

The biggest name among the former Phils is outfielder Dale Murphy. "Mr Clean" played parts of three seasons for the Phils after making a name for himself winning two NL MVP awards for the Atlanta Braves.

Also on the ballot is former power outfielder Ron Gant. In parts of the 1999 and 2000 seasons, the outfielder played 227 games for the Phils knocking 37 homers and 115 RBI.

The trio of former Phightins in rounded out by reliever Dan Plesac. He ended his 18 season career appearing in 58 games for the 2003 Phillies.

Plesac is sixth all time with 1,064 games pitched.

None of the three former Phils is expected to make the Hall this year and only Murphy appears destined to remain on the ballot by receiving the necessary five percent of ballots.

The best bets to be enshrined in Cooperstown next year are steal-king Rickey Henderson and slugger Jim Rice.
