“I'll Have A Bottle To Go, Please”

One day (we can never say SOON when we're talking politics) you may be able to order wine-to-go when you're eating out in Pennsylvania.

A bill has already been introduced to change the current law and this week you can have your say at a public hearing at the Independence Visotor Center, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

If the bill does become law, you'd be able to buy up to two bottles of wine to take with you after a meal. House bill 2612's main sponsor, Republican John D. Payne from Dauhpin County explains it this way on his website:

House Bill 2612, introduced on June 25, 2010, would amend the Liquor Code by permitting a caterer or restaurant that possesses a valid liquor license at its main facility to serve alcohol at an off-site event.  Current law only allows licensed establishments to serve alcohol at their primary location.

This bill would also permit a hotel or restaurant to sell up to two bottles of wine for consumption off premises as long as the bottles remain sealed when they are removed from the seller’s location.

Wednesday's public hearing starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Liberty View Ballroom at 1 N. Independence Mall West, 6th and Market Streets in Philadelphia.
