Ex-NJ Prosecutor's Firing Appeal

A New Jersey appeals court has heard from both sides in a lawsuit by a former assistant county prosecutor who claims he was the victim of political payback that may have stretched all the way to the governor's office.
Ben Barlyn sued the state over his firing from the Hunterdon County prosecutor's office in 2010. Barlyn says he complained after a 43-count indictment against three county employees was dropped by the state attorney general's office. Barlyn claims a member of Gov. Chris Christie's transition team was mentioned in the case, though he wasn't indicted.
Christie has denied any role in the dismissal.
The appellate panel on Tuesday heard arguments on whether grand jury transcripts that led to the indictment should be made available. Grand jury proceedings are normally secret.
