Terry Gillen Drops Out of Philly Mayoral Race

One candidate has dropped out of the race to be Philadelphia's next mayor.

Terry Gillen told The Philadelphia Inquirer Friday that she hasn't been able to raise enough money.

That leaves former District Attorney Lynne Abraham, former City Solicitor Kenneth Trujillo and state Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams as declared candidates for the Democratic primary.

Yet the field is far from settled. Gillen says that uncertainty made it hard to get financial support. She says while she raised about $225,000, it's not enough to stay competitive.

Gillen previously served as executive director of the city's Redevelopment Authority.

Philadelphia is heavily Democratic city, and the winner of May's primary will likely face light opposition in the general election.

Current Democratic Mayor Michael Nutter cannot run for a third term.
