State Senator Needs Help: House Speaker

Pennsylvania House Speaker Sam Smith says he hopes a state senator who was asked to leave a Harrisburg bar after confronting him there gets help for her problems.

Smith said in a statement Wednesday night that Sen. Lisa Boscola's version of events "is a clear indication of her own denial of the situation" and that others have had similar encounters with the Northampton County Democrat.

The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported on the incident online Wednesday.

Boscola wouldn't tell the newspaper whether she had been drinking, but she acknowledges she was asked to leave after the exchange may have made others uncomfortable. She also denied hitting a woman there, as the woman claimed in a Facebook post, and says she left the bar without incident.
