What Special Snow Goose Season Means for Hunters in Delaware

The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife is relaxing some restrictions on waterfowl hunting for a special snow goose season.

The season runs Monday through Friday, and then reopens Feb. 8 through April 9. It's intended to reduce the burgeoning population of greater snow geese causing damage to wetlands and farm fields. During the special season, hunters can load their shotguns with more than three shells and use electronic calls to attract geese -- measures that are usually prohibited.

There is no daily bag limit. During the regular season, hunters are limited to 25 snow geese a day.

The agency says that during last year's special snow goose season, hunters killed nearly 13,700 birds. That's an average of 19 for each of the 730 hunters who participated.
