Sky's the Limit for Airport Funding

They say that flying is the safest way to travel. For Pennsylvania residents, the Pa. Department of Transportation is doing all it can to make sure it stays that way.

Governor Edward Rendell announced Friday that PennDot’s Aviation Capital Budget-Transportation Assistance Program was investing $10 million into nine Pa. airports.

“By making smart state investments in aviation, we can help ensure that the Commonwealth’s airports are running safely and efficiently,” said Rendell.

The program is funded through state capital bond dollars. The grants are administered by PennDot’s Bureau of Aviation.

Of the nine recipients, the Lehigh Valley International Airport is receiving the highest amount of money at $3 million. The funds will be used to renovate the airport’s terminal building.

Rendell also believes that the funding will have more long-term effects beyond just the airports.

“This investment will not only allow these airports to make necessary enhancements, it will also help them to further stimulate local economies.”
