Chelsea Clinton Engaged to Philly Boy

The former first daughter to get hitched to former Pa. rep's son

This time, it's for real.

Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton has become engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky.

You might recognize the last name of Chelsea's beau --  that's right he is the son of former news reporter and U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky who represented the Philly burbs in the 1990s.

Matt McKenna, a spokesman for former President Bill Clinton, confirmed Chelsea, 29, and Mezvinsky, an investment banker, got engaged on Thanksgiving and announced it in an e-mail to friends. The e-mail indicated that they are looking at a possible wedding next summer.

The couple met as teens in Washington and also attended Stanford University together where they studied finance.

In addition to education, they also have the shared experience of being the child of a disgraced politician. Clinton was a teenager during the time her father famously denied sex scandal after sex scandal. Mezvinsky was also a teen when his  father, former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, was sentenced to federal prison on charges of bank and wire fraud. He was released last year.

Marc's mother Triple-M (as she is known) only served one term in office. A democrat, she was one of the casualties of the republican take over of the House in 1994.

The local ties of the future mother-in-law of the former first daughter go even deeper.

MMM was once a reporter at WCAU-TV in Philly and would later work for NBC. She now serves as president to the Philly-based Women's Campaign International.

Last spring, the Boston Globe set off a media frenzy when they reported rumors that the two were planning an August wedding on Martha's Vineyard. New York Magazine, the Washington Post, the Daily News and travel section of the New York Times also referenced reports of an August wedding, infuriating members of the Clinton camp who spent four months denying the rumors.

Chelsea is the only daughter of the former president and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She is studying public health at Columbia University.
