Philadelphia House Authority Chief Resigns

Officials say Micheal Kelly will step down after 18 months as chief

The man who took over the Philadelphia Housing Authority in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal is stepping down after a year and a half on the job.

Housing authority officials say Michael Kelly's two-week notice was accepted Friday by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. No reason was given for Kelly's resignation.

HUD took over the troubled agency last year after it was embroiled in a scandal centered on secret sexual harassment settlements tied to former director Carl Greene.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports PHA's sole board member, HUD's Karen Newton-Cole, credited Kelly with instituting much-needed reforms at the agency.

Director of Audit and Compliance Kelvin Jeremiah was named interim director. Former board member and current HUD adviser Estelle Richman was also named as Newton-Cole's replacement.
