Pa. Dems Choose Replacement Candidate for O'Pake

Democrats in eastern Pennsylvania have chosen a candidate to try to replace the late Sen. Michael O'Pake, a veteran Democrat who died last month from complications of heart surgery.

Berks County Democratic Committee on Saturday unanimously nominated former county commissioner Judy Schwank as the party standard-bearer for the March 15 special election in the 11th District.

The Reading Eagle says Republican leaders were scheduled to choose their candidate Saturday night.

O'Pake was Pennsylvania's longest-serving state lawmaker when he died Dec. 27.
