Nutter Bets Hats, Volunteerism on NLCS

Philly mayor bets San Fran mayor on Phillies series

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is engaging in a friendly wager with his counterpart in San Francisco, as the Phillies take on the Giants in the National League Championship Series.

Nutter and San Fran’s Gavin Newsom have agreed that the losing team's mayor will don the winning team's cap at an event on or around Veterans Day.

“I’d be honored to volunteer with our city’s courageous veterans on Veterans Day,” said Nutter. “Philadelphians have a longstanding commitment to service, and I look forward to volunteering at Impact Services. I will proudly wear my Phillies hat while Mayor Newsom also wears one in San Francisco.”

Nutter better be careful because Newsom is working on a winning streak. Newsom won his bet with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed after the Giants beat the Braves in the first round. Reed had to hoist the Giants' flag over Atlanta City Hall.

But the mayor's odds of winning this time appear slimmer even after the G-Men took Game 1. The Giants are considered significant underdogs against the defending NL champs, who finished with the best record in the majors this year.

No matter the final result Nutter will volunteer with veterans facility Impact Services in Kensington.
