NJ MVC Monday Return Met With Computer Crash

New hours OK’d to ease lines and wait times

Computers are back up and running at the New Jersey's 39 Motor Vehicle Commission offices after a statewide computer malfunction left them unable to do business for most of the morning.

The glitch was especially frustrating because it came on the first day MVC offices were open on Mondays in a year.

The agency reversed a decision last summer to close on Mondays to save money. The decision resulted in longer lines and waiting times.

MVC spokesman Mike Horan says the computer problems started shortly before 9 a.m. and lasted until about 1 p.m.

The agencies will be open between 8 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. weekdays and until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The offices operate on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
