NJ Leaders D.C.-Bound, Despite Snow

New Jersey Governor Christie will speak at Chamber dinner in D.C.

Snow will not stop the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce's annual train trip to Washington.

Gov. Chris Christie will speak at the chamber's dinner on Thursday, but he's skipping the train ride sometimes maligned as "a schmooze cruise."

Christie passed on the trip last year, saying he and his staff had too much work to do.  He also skipped the trip as a candidate for governor.  The governor will join New Jersey's congressional delegation at the annual business dinner, addressing the group for the first time as governor.

The train ride is called the "Walk to Washington" because the riders usually walk through the train during the journey.  The chartered AMTRAK train will have 11 cars with about 700 people, up from 500 a year ago.

The train trek is attended by business people, politicians and lobbyists. Political scientist Peter Woolley says Christie may be reaching out to show his support for the business community during a tough economy.
