The shortened Republican National Convention will not diminish the influence of participants from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

More than 140 delegates are attending the convention from our three states. Pennsylvania is considered to be a key battleground state on the road to winning the 2012 presidential election.

Along with the local delegations, there are also key speakers and participants at this week’s events.

Tuesday evening’s prime time session will be capped off by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s keynote address. The governor set up two new social media accounts dedicated to his time in the spotlight. He is tweeting from @christiekeynote on Twitter and posting videos and photos on a new Tumblr account.

Former Republican Pennsylvania U.S. senator Rick Santorum and Sher Valenzuela, the GOP candidate for Lt. Governor in Delaware, are also on the Tuesday evening speakers’ list.

The opening ceremony on Tuesday afternoon will feature New Jersey native Philip Alongi singing the National Anthem. Alongi, a professional operatic tenor who is from Manalapan in Monmouth County, was called on to sing the National Anthem at the 2008 convention. That honor goes to Ayla Brown at the opening of Wednesday evening’s session. Brown is the official National Anthem singer for the Philadelphia 76ers and a 2006 “American Idol” contestant.
