A bill that would allow municipalities in Delaware to impose their own restrictions on gun ownership is set for a state Senate committee hearing.
The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. Robert Marshall of Wilmington, is to be discussed in the Judiciary Committee next week.
The legislation, introduced last year, would allow Delaware municipalities to regulate firearms and ammunition while continuing to prohibit counties from doing so.
A similar bill introduced last year by Democratic Rep. Stephanie Bolden of Wilmington would allow Wilmington, but not other cities, to pass its own gun-control laws.
Current state law prohibits local governments in Delaware from enacting their own gun-control measures.
Marshall said last year that lawmakers from other parts of the state may have difficulty relating to the gun violence seen in Wilmington.
