Gov. Christie Back on the Campaign Trail

NJ Republican heading to Illinois for Romney

Republican presidential front runner Mitt Romney is once again enlisting NJ Gov. Chris Christie, for some high-powered campaign support.

Christie is traveling to Elmhurst on Friday for a Romney rally. The Ill. primary is next Tuesday.
Romney backer and Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford tweeted on Wed.: β€œAlso, I can confirm that Mitt will be at Elmhurst College on Friday, March 16 with Governor Chris Christie at noon in Founder's Lounge.”

Christie endorsed Romney for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination in Oct. 2011. Since then the Republican governor has helped with campaign appearances, including a trip to New Hampshire in January, and attended fund raising events.

Meanwhile, Christie is still on a short list of Republicans some in the party would like to see as a presidential or vice-presidential contender.

In Ill. where political observers say Romney has an advantage, he is mounting a major television campaign and a super PAC has pumped in $2.4 million for negative ads opposing former Pa. U.S. senator Rick Santorum.

With a handful of delegates yet to be allocated from Tuesday's races, the Associated Press tally showed Romney with 495 of the 1,144 needed for the nomination. Santorum had 252, Gingrich 131 and Ron Paul 46.
