Delaware Primary 2012

Primary elections are held today in Delaware and for some uncontested races it will be decision day.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. The State of Delaware website has an easy setup to help you find your polling place. And Delaware Online has a Voters Guide.

Key races include:

Wilmington Mayor  -- five Democrats are on the ballot. There are no contenders from any other party.

  • Robert Bovell
  • Kevin Kelley
  • William Montgomery
  • Scott Spencer
  • Dennis Williams

New Castle County Executive

Paul Clark is running for re-election. He is up against three other Democrats -- Thomas Gordon, Jonathan Husband and William Shahan, Jr. The winner faces Republican Blake Mark in November.

U.S. Senate

Incumbent Thomas Carper faces Keith Spanarelli in the Democratic primary. The winner will be contested by Republican Wade Kevin, Green Party Candidate Groff Richard and Independent candidate Pires Alexander in November.

U.S. Representative

And in the race for U.S. Representative, only the Republicans have candidates on the primary ballot -- Rose Izzo and Thomas H. Kovach. Tonight's winner faces incumbent, Democrat John Carney, Jr. in November, as well as Green Party candidate August Bernard and Libertarian Gesty Scott.

Analysts are predicting a good turnout in Wilmington because of the race for Mayor and because all but two of the 13 council seats are on the ballot. There are no Republicans on the ballot for any of the races in the City of Wilmington, so winners today will be the winners by default in November.
