Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett on Thursday nominated a suburban Philadelphia county judge to assume a vacant seat on the state's mid-level appeals court.
The governor's office announced his choice of Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Jenkins to fill a spot on Superior Court created when Correale Stevens joined the Supreme Court.
Jenkins has spent two decades on the Delaware County bench, has been a lawyer in private practice and a county human services solicitor, and has taught at Widener and Villanova universities.
She holds an undergraduate degree in political science from Albright College, a master's in tax law from Villanova and a law degree from Dickinson School of Law.
Voters will elect someone for that position in November 2015. A spokesman for Corbett said there have been no discussions about whether Jenkins would be a candidate at that time.
Stevens became a justice in late July, nominated by Corbett to take the position held most recently by Joan Orie Melvin, who resigned in May after being convicted of charges she used government employees to help her political campaigns.
