Three of the hotly contested suburban Philadelphia races went to Republican incumbents

Three of the hotly contested suburban Philadelphia races went to Republican incumbents Tuesday as Rep. Jim Gerlach, Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick and Rep. Patrick Meehan held onto their seats.

Gerlach, a now six-time Congressman from the 6th Congressional District held off a challenge from Democrat Manan Trivedi and Meehan won a second term in the 7th Congressional District by holding off Democrat George Badey.

Rep. Meehan thanked his supporters Tuesday night and looked ahead to the next two years. "It takes a genuine dialogue to get things done. I am proud of the work of reaching across the aisle to work with my colleagues on the other side as well."

In the 8th Congressional District, Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R) held off a challenge from Democrat Kathy Boockvar. Fitzpatrick served as a U.S. Congressman from 2005 to 2007 and won back his seat in 2010.

"Clearly we have a lot of work to do, we have double-digit unemployment, we have incredibly burdensome national debt, we have high energy prices, but the great thing about America is we know how to turn things around," said Rep. Fitzpatrick.

The 6th Congressional District covers parts of Berks, Chester, Lebanon and Montgomery Counties. The 7th covers parts of Berks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster and Montgomery Counties. And, the 8th covers parts of Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
