Jerseyans Split About Their Leader: Poll

Christie Good on Cost Cutting But Worries Remain: Poll

In a new poll, New Jerseyans give Gov. Chris Christie high marks for reducing state spending. But they're also worried about the impact of the governor's cuts.

The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Press Media poll out Thursday finds Christie's job approval rating at 44 percent. The same percentage disapprove of the job he's doing.

Those surveyed applaud Christie for cutting wasteful spending and returning integrity to government. But only 31 percent give him a good grade for providing tax relief.

About half of those surveyed believe that senior citizens, the middle class and poor will be harmed by the budget.

The telephone survey of 801 New Jersey adults was taken July 7 to 11 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
