The Christie Era Officially Begins

NJ gov inaugural a full-day affair

A new era began Tuesday in the Garden State, as Chris Christie became the 55th governor of New Jersey.

Before he was sworn in the new gov made sure he was spiritually prepared.

Gov. Christie and Lt. Gov Kim Guadagno attended their inaugural Mass. New Jersey's new leader started his day with a spiritual visit to Newark's Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. A welcome bit of sanctuary before entering the rough-and-tumble world of New Jersey's Statehouse.

Donald Trump and his wife were among the attendees.

Christie will need the wisdom of Solomon once he's sworn in as governor, Archbishop John Myers said.

Christie succeeded Jon Corzine and became the first Republican to hold the post in eight years. Guadagno is the first elected lieutenant governor in state history.

State Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner administered the oath at noon at Trenton's War Memorial.

But the fun will really begin at night when Christie and Guadagno attend an evening cocktail reception to be held at the Prudential Center in Newark. Jersey-themed food and entertainment are on the menu.
