Two polls find more residents approve than disapprove of the job New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is doing a year into his term.
A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Press Media Poll finds Christie's job approval rating at 47-percent compared to 40-percent who say they disapprove of the job he's doing.
Christie gets high marks for cost-cutting but lower grades for providing property tax relief. The polling suggests that the positive feelings about his job performance could change if property taxes don't come down in the near future.
And Christie appears to be a polarizing person -- people either like him or don't. Those strong opinions are split evenly in the Monmouth poll: 26-percent each way.
A Quinnipiac University Poll puts the governor's job approval rating at 52-percent compared to a 40-percent disapproval rating.
"...Christie is a real New Jersey guy and he stirs a lot of real New Jersey emotions," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac polling.
They gave people four choices for their attitudes about Christie:
- 41% like him as a person and like most of his policies
- 17% like his as a person but don't like his policies
- 9% don't like him as a person but do like his policies
- 27% don't care for Christie as a person or his policies
The Monmouth telephone poll of 801 New Jerseyans was taken Feb. 2 to 7 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Politics
The Quinnipiac poll of 1,347 registered voters was taken Feb. 3 to 7 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
