Booze on the Boards in Wildwood

Wildwood becomes second town on the island to allow alcohol sales on boardwalk

Starting this summer, you'll be able to get a drink with your dinner on the Wildwood boardwalk.

The new ordinance that takes effect on June 8 will allow up to three restaurants along the Wildwood, N.J. portion of the boards to sell alcoholic drinks.

There are a host of stipulations with the new booze rule. Alcohol can only be sold by full-service restaurants that offer full meals and have more than 100 seats, reports The Press of Atlantic City.

The drinks will also only be served at tables, not at bars.

While this is the first time the city of Wildwood will be allowing drinks on the boards, it's not a first for the island.

North Wildwood passed a similar ordinance allowing drinking on the boardwalk four years ago. Morey's Piers Ocean Oasis waterpark was the first to offer the alcoholic beverages to guests.

Morey's plans to be one of the owners of the new boardwalk liquor licenses. The amusement organization wants to expand it's Jumbo's restaurant on its Schellenger Avenue pier.

Wildwood Mayor Gary DeMarzo says his town will monitor alcohol sales this summer on the boards, but also doesn't expect any problems.
