Assassination of Harvey Milk, George Moscone Commemorated in San Francisco

Community members are joining several Bay Area organizations in honoring Harvey Milk and George Moscone.

San Francisco Mayor Moscone and City Supervisor Milk, a gay-rights activist, were shot to death inside City Hall by former supervisor Dan White on Nov. 27, 1978.

The annual memorial vigil and march starts at 7 p.m. on the steps of San Francisco's City Hall.

Mayor Ed Lee, Senator Mark Leno and others will pay tribute to Milk and Moscone.

The theme of this year's vigil will be “sky-rocketing rent.”

Organizers say Milk and Moscone were no strangers to fighting for the rights of tenants, and thousands of San Franciscans are currently in danger of losing their homes.
