Bill Clinton, Oprah Honor Maya Angelou

Family and close friends of author and civil rights activist Maya Angelou honored her at a private memorial service in North Carolina on Saturday. β€œShe called our attention in thousands of ways to her belief that life is a gift manifest in each new day,” said former President Bill Clinton in a reflection during the service at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, where Angelou taught for three decades. Oprah Winfrey said Angelou, who died on May 28 at the age of 85, taught her "the poetry of courage and respect" and "was the ultimate teacher."
