This year's nominees highlighted the younger guard of American fashion, with several iconic American talents were passed over in favor of Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, and even Lady Gaga.

From Lady Gaga to Marc Jacobs, here's who made the cut for this year's awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This year, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award will go to: Marc Jacobsn<br>This is certainly CFDA golden boy Marc Jacobs' year--not only is he picking up the lifetime achievement award he is also nominated in the women's category. Jacobs is far from done and on hearing the news he was getting this award said he felt like it should be a "half lifetime" award.

Fashion Icon Award: Lady Gagan<br>The crowd gathered at the CFDA Awards nominations announcement let out a collective gasp when it was announced Lady Gaga was set to receive this award. Feelings are mixed--is she being honored just so she will attend the June awards or do her fashion choices make her more than deserving? (Previous recipients have included supermodels Iman and Kate Moss, as well as Nicole Kidman.)

Now they having morphed into a CFDA favorite--they have been nominated countless times and took this award home in 2007.

Nominee for Menswear Designer of the Year: Simon Spurrn<br>Simon Spurr has been creating a lot of buzz--his fall 2011 show drew the likes of Ed Westwick and Anna Wintour (who doesn't normally attend men's shows). Spurr is credited with bringing Savile Row traditions to a new generation.

Nominee for Menswear Designer of the Year: Patrick Ervelln<br>The Swedish-born Patrick Ervell has a political science background and often says he fell into design. Now he is nominated with the big boys for menswear designer of the year.

Nominee for Accessory Designer of the Year: Alexander Wangn<br>This is one of three nominations for Alexander Wang this year, and the likeliest for the designer to scoop up. Based on sales (Wang's bags and shoes sell like hotcakes) Wang has already won.

Nominee for Accessory Designer of the Year: Reed Krakoffn<br>Reed Krakoff, Creative Director of Coach, debuted his namesake line for fall 2010. While the ready-to-wear segment screams urban lux, its the accessories like the Boxer handbag and clutch that have become bestsellers and editorial favorites.
