Following allegations of animal abuse, the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico has banned the use of horse-drawn carriages. "We have been receiving complaints for years from tourists and people who live in Old San Juan," the order stated. The executive order went into effect days after people posted pictures of a horse collapsing in the city on social media. The carriages have been a popular activity for tourists wanting to embark on the historic city. A family-run business owned the horses and a neighbor said the animals were treated well.
