Rutger Hauer Wants Chris Nolan to Direct New “Blade Runner,” And So Do We

If you're going to reboot the best sci-fi film of one generation, why not get the best blockbuster director of the following generation to helm it?

Hauer's been making the rounds promoting his upcoming splatter-fest, "Hobo With a Shotgun," and with word of a new "Blade Runner" in development, it was only naturally to ask the original film's villain his thoughts.

“If Christopher Nolan would be on it I’d say, ‘All right, go for it!’ But otherwise you can’t do it," Rutger Hauer told Hero Complex. "‘Blade Runner’ is such a unique film. How do you describe a diamond? I don’t think you should ever touch it again.”

"Blade Runner" is definitely a pantheon-level film that must be handled with the utmost care and respect, and Nolan is one of the very few man with the vision, brands and technical skill to make it work. And he's expressed on more than one occasion his reverence for the film.

That said, the man is helping out on "Superman: Man of Steel," making "Dark Knight Rises," and prepping a Howard Hughes biopic, so when he might find time to do "Blade Runner" is anyone's guess. Still, it's a nice idea.
