Quadruple Amputee Approved for Bilateral Arm Transplant

A former Boston University professor who lost all of his limbs after getting a life-threatening infection from group A streptococcus, has been approved for a bilateral arm transplant, NECN reported. Will Lautzenheiser was approved for the transplant at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a procedure that will take between 12 and 15 hours to complete. Only an estimated seven arm transplants have been done worldwide, while the number of double transplants is even fewer.
