Car Drives Over Rabbi, Pulls Forward and Runs Over Him Again: Police

A 66-year-old rabbi and father of four died after a car reversed and struck him, pulled forward, then reversed a second time, pinning him under the wheel Monday evening in Brooklyn, police said.

Yekutiel Rapp was hit on Empire Boulevard and Balfour Place in Crown Heights at about 5:30 p.m., according to police. Police say he had been standing behind a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, which was parked on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The vehicle started to back up, hitting Rapp and knocking him to the ground, then pulled forward and backed up again, pinning the rabbi under the passenger side rear tire.

Rapp was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Daily News, he was an Orthodox rabbi who was a faculty member at Central Lubavitch Yeshiva on Eastern Parkway. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday.

The driver remained on scene and no charges have been filed.
