While the rest of the world stocks up on sneakers and sportswear, Zac Posen's glittering corner of the fashion universe remains thoroughly rooted in old world glamour. This season, Posen looked to French impressionists and 19th century actress Sarah Bernhardt for a collection that reveled in tulle, exposlive ruffles and romantic florals.

Posen's frocks were unapologetically ladylike—a pouf sleeve here, a flutter of chiffon there. The designer called the project "conceptual evening," but if you ask us, the concept seemed straight-forward—perfectly pretty pieces, the stuff little girls' dress-up dreams are made of.

The collection may have felt a tad frou-frou compared to some of Posen's New York contemporaries. Still, you can't deny the man's tailoring prowess—the sculptural, swooping detail along the front of this meringue-yellow frock must have taken hours to achieve.

It's hard to be Zac Posen and not play to a celeb audience (which orders red-carpet ready pieces fresh off the catwalk). We're certain this peachy-keen stunner with a softly gathered bodice will turn up at a Hollywood premiere.

At times, Posen's old world influences felt a tad...well, old. The full sleeves and satin ribbon on this frothy confection gave the look a faintly Victorian vibe.

We're pretty sure we had a Barbie doll with this exact silver mermaid gown—complete with cascading ruffles and extreme bustle at the hip.

Speaking of Barbie, this pretty pink ballgown with a regal full skirt would be perfect in her wardrobe.

We'll take our dose of "flouf" with a full, swishy skirt and a sheer chiffon blouse, thanks very much. Here, a playful brocade skirt and embroidered blue-gray blouse.

It will take a truly confident socialite to swing this outrageously ruffled number, but have you been to the Upper East Side lately? Zac Posen knows the audience he's playing to.
