NJ Transit Holding Public Session on Fare Increases

The public is getting its first opportunity to weigh in on New Jersey Transit's proposed fare increases and service changes.

New Jersey Transit is holding a public information session on Saturday at the New Brunswick Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. on the possible 9 percent fare increase and the elimination of some rail and bus service.

It's the first of 10 public sessions. There will be nine additional public hearings across the state beginning on Monday.

The agency is facing a $60 million budget shortfall for the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.

The service changes are set to take effect in September. Fare increases would begin on Oct. 1.
