A New Jersey man who fled to Egypt to escape a murder charge has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Eslam Gad was convicted in June of the fatal drive-by shooting of 21-year-old Anthony Holmes in Elizabeth in 2012.
He also was convicted of attempted murder for shooting at two women shortly after shooting Holmes. Neither woman was struck by gunfire.
After the shooting, Gad flew to Egypt and was eventually arrested in Manchester, England in 2016 with the help of Interpol and local police.
The 30-year-old Gad will have to serve at least 51 years before he is eligible for parole. At his sentencing Thursday in Elizabeth, Gad denied responsibility for the shootings.
