A New Jersey church that was severely damaged by a fire that killed a toddler will be rebuilt.
Archdiocese of Newark Cardinal Joseph Tobin announced the decision Saturday in a letter distributed to parishioners of Saints Joseph and Michael Catholic Church in Union City.
The Archdiocese estimates it will cost $5 million and take about 16 months to rebuild the church.
Authorities have said the fire started in an apartment where Eddie Gonzalez Jr. lived with his family.
The year-old boy was found dead after the blaze was under control. His father and another man were recently indicted on charges of manslaughter, causing widespread injury or damage and creating a risk of widespread injury or damage.
Gonzalez's father suffered severe burns in the fire as he tried to rescue his son.
