Authorities: Missing Man's Body Recovered From Passaic River

Authorities say they've recovered the body of a man who ended up in the Passaic River in New Jersey.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose tells NJ.com that fire department personnel using an underwater camera discovered the man's body on Tuesday. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

Newark police say they received a report around 5 p.m. Monday of a man who was in the river and had been swept away. Dive teams, police and firefighters spent hours searching for him before suspending the effort at 11 p.m.

Investigators are attempting to determine why the man entered the water. Ambrose says witnesses say he jumped into the water and was pulled under the surface. Police say evidence doesn't suggest the man was trying to kill himself.
