Report: Syrian First Lady is Pregnant

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad revealed that his wife is pregnant with their fourth child, according to the Beirut-based al-Akhbar newspaper. "The man seems calm and in control," the al-Akhbar article said of Assad. "His confidence level stands out. Also, there’s the news of the pregnancy of his wife Asma, which could not be dealt with as a simple personal matter between a couple.” Asma al-Assad, 37, has not been seen in the public eye recently, which numerous news agencies attribute to her pregnancy. Syrian news outlet Al Bawaba reported that the British-born first lady was five months pregnant in November, which means her due date is eminent. Asma al-Assad has become a controversial figure in the wake of the bloody civilian uprising that began 22 months ago, with diplomatic wives pleading her to reason with her husband. Around the same, time a hacker released thousands of emails, revealing her love for European designers Chanel and Christian Louboutin. The European Union has since slapped her with sanctions, stating she is no longer permitted to travel to Europe or shop at European companies.
