Pentagon Blew $36M on Unwanted Afghanistan Outpost: Report

The Pentagon wasted $36 million building a command facility in Afghanistan — that wasn't even wanted — after the troop surge ended there, a military watchdog said Wednesday in a scathing report. The watchdog also charged that defense officials had sabotaged his earlier investigation into the 2011 project at Camp Leatherneck, coaching witnesses and urging military personnel to stonewall his probe. The Pentagon insisted in a reply that it had been "prudent" to continue with the building plans, denied that there had been any misconduct and said there was no reason to investigate any further.
